we want to use the Sports theme the way it was shown in the Live-Demo. But as I understood, an event calendar with the function of the demo is not included. We would need event calendar pro!! What about the Roster functionality?
How does that work? Are any more detailed informations?
I'm not sure I understand what you mean - can you try and explain in more detail - What about the Roster functionality

the Roster topic is done. All is fine....
But there is no way to setup a good Calendar without buying the Pro version of the event Calendar.
And thats not really mentioned in the presentation of your theme......
Sport is compatible with the free events calendar plugin - The Events Calendar (by Modern Tribe Inc).
To install this plugin you can either go to Plugins > Add New - search for The Events Calendar and install/activate it or you can download it directly here.
Activate The Events Calendar
When you activate the The Events Calendar plugin several things will happen:

How do I turn on pretty permalinks? What does it do?
I'm not sure I understand what you mean - can you try and explain in more detail?
In your message below you said "By default the URL should be http://your-site/events/ (if you have pretty permalinks turned on)"
I asked what does pretty permalinks do and how do I turn it on?
It actually url to display your events, I'd like you to review this article what are permalinks https://themeisle.com/blog/permalinks-in-wordpress/ to understand more about permalinks.
Permalink can be turned on under Settings > Permalink
You can set Events URL/Permalink as per your desired url e.g if you would like to display events on different url e.g you wan to display it like Myconcerts so
go to: Events > Settings > Where's My Calendar? or look further down the same page as the URL is mentioned in several locations. By default the URL should be http://your-site/events/ (if you have pretty permalinks turned on). Copy paste the URL.
